International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

The World’s Indigenous People’s Day was celebrated with great fanfare on August 9, 2022 in the college auditorium. It was planned and organized by AICUF College unit. The theme of the celebration was “Tribal Languages and Life.” The purpose of organizing this celebration was to make students aware of Tribal Culture, Language, Values, Dress and Food. Various groups of students presented cultural dance, songs and fashion show. All the participants were in attractive tribal dress and Guests were served with Tribal Food prepared by the students.

The Director and Scholars of Tribal Research Centre at St. Xavier’s College presented different dimensions of Tribal Life in five different languages and highlighted the significance of Tribal Languages. Various eminent speakers like Fr. Rector, Fr. Vice-Principal, AICUF state Advisor, Mrs. Asunta Lakra the former Indian Hockey captain, Experts on tribal issues spoke on different tribal issues to help students understand tribal way of life.

Guests were welcome with Tribal Dance and washing the feet. In the beginning of the program, the preamble of the Indian Constitution was recited and lamps were lighted by the guests and the tributes paid to the Adivasi stalwarts of the past on their portraits by esteemed guests.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY 2022

On the occasion of International Yoga Day celebrated on 21st June 2022, the NSS and NCC unit of St Xavier's College, Ranchi and had organised a Yoga Event where more than 200 volunteers took part. A professional Yoga Instructor, Mr. Indrajeet Chakraborty and Ms Anjali Sen along with their team were invited to the college in order to give a holistic experience to the volunteers as well as the professors who had joined them, Father Principal Nabor Lakra sir, NSS Program Officer Dr. Kamal Bose sir, HOD of Botany Professor Dr. Ajay Srivastav sir , Professor in Geology Lt. Dr. Priya Srivastav ma'am, Examination Controller Professor B K Sinha sir, DSW Dr. Markus Barla sir and other non teaching staff.

The event took place in the College Compound and started at 6:00 am. The event was inaugurated by Father Principal Nabor Lakra Sir followed by a welcome speech by NSS Program Officer, Dr. Kamal Bose sir. The instructor initiated the event with a brief history of Yoga and why is it important for today's citizens to perform it on daily basis, the various types of Yoga and their benefits.

The Yoga Protocol was followed as per the government's guidelines and was of 34 minutes. It started with brief breathing techniques and some warm up. The instructor went on to perform every Yoga Posture with great detail, explaining what the particular posture helps in improving like nervous system, muscular system, skeletal system and the cardiac system.

At the end of the event, there was an interactive session where volunteers and professors asked several questions to the instructor and he answered them with great detail. Students from (school's name) were invited to showcase their Yoga techniques which they performed with ease and grace. The volunteers were in awe of them. After the event got over, volunteers were provided with refreshments and it's safe to say, the event was a great success.
